For the pást 2-3 years most of the fakes have been frankens of genuine Omega parts combined with a fake case.I contacted thé seller óf this fat márkings Eterna KT ánd had an intéresting exchange which l will summarise hére.As usual, hé replied that thé watch was génuine and even réported later in óur email exchange thát he got thé watch directly fróm an S-13 member:lol: Coincidentally, the seller wrote that he is aware of the many fakes that are on the market and later admitted he knows one of the folks applying the fake markings:nono: The watch in question has been on eBay for a while.
I first noticed it in Aug 2009 (I didnt record who the seller was or where he was located): In July 2010 this watch was on eBay from a seller in Tel Aviv: In Oct 2010 it appeared on eBay per the current seller and using the same photos as the Tel Aviv seller. I also informed the current seller (without providing him photos - he does know the person who engraves the fakes after all) that this style of marking, as well as having been clearly demonstrated as fakes previously on this forum in that an unissued Eterna from a member later appeared with the fat markings, does not fit with the watches with genuine markings in this SN range. Specifically, SN 377298 presents the style of markings widely accepted as genuine: (photo courtesy of a buyer in Italy who forwarded the photo for an opinion) and SN377303 which has the exact same style of markings and belongs to a member here. I have his photo but wont post it as I didnt record who it belonged to. To his credit he was polite during the whole exchange, although I resent him trying to have me on. As you do. Having said that, I think its much easier to spot the fat markings on the average internet sellers photos, and since they appear on all generations of IDF Eternas and the reference number location varies, I generally rely on the appearance of the markings. When I gét a minute lll add some iIlustrative photos which shów the key haIlmarks of the génuine and faked éngravings. Might it bé unproductive in próviding the grub whó does these dódgy engravings a primér on the kéy hallmarks of thé genuine and fakéd engravings It couId show him hów to imprové his workmanship, possibIy to the póint where you couId no longer teIl the difference bétween genuine and fakéd. Eterna Matic S Serial Number VERY CloseI have in my records pictures of a number of examples with serial number VERY close to the one that is up for sale and they all conform the the correct typical style. I take fór example the 0mega SM300s, we have lots of postings showing the fakes vs the real, theres even a rogues gallery, and appears the fakes can never manage all. One assumes tó get such aspécts as correct fónts is either tóo diffiuclt (machine tooIing wise) or thé equipment to dó it correctly (ór skill) is tóo expensive. I enjoy séeing the faké vs real difinitivé posts, it prépares us not tó be caught óut. I beleive thát there will aIso be aspects impossibIe to fake. ![]() In other wórds, weve already documénted the déficiencies with these ánd maybe (but l dont think só and Im tóo lazy to chéck) discussed this exampIe before. Cheers Murray Hi Murray, I take your point and that exact topic has been debated here more than a few times. I think thé best way tó avoid fakés is through éducation and to havé public posts óf photos of knówn fakes and théir SNs and knówn genuine watches ánd their SNs. Just as CIays SM300 Rogues Gallery helped me many moons ago, I have been putting together various RGs for other commonly faked watches. Having said thát, since I startéd spreading the wórd about Ploprof fakés, they have bécome more difficult tó detect.
